AUSTRALIA’S BEST: Beeswax Candles by HN Collection

WHAT IS BEESWAX?

Beeswax is the secretion by bees to make honeycomb. A certain group of bees known as Stingless bees are found scattered around Australia and this genus mixes nectar, pollen and various resins gathered to form wax. This wax secretion is a distinguishing characteristic of social bees as their nest building material.

HOW ARE HN COLLECTION CANDLES DIFFERENT TO OTHERS?

Majority of cheaper candles are made from paraffin wax, which can be toxic.  Studies have shown that candles made from beeswax are non toxic, combined with 100% cotton as a candle wick our candles will not give off a black smoke when lit. Even our cotton wick is also 100% natural, and comes from the delicate seed of the cotton plant that by capillary action supplies the candle with flame from its oil.

ADVANTAGES:

* The purest of all natural waxes is used

* Longer burn time means customers save money

* Acts as a natural air cleaner and purifier

* Makes attractive, premium candles without additives

* Has a natural therapeutic scent

* Drip and soot-free in a draft free environment

* Made from beeswax supports the local beekeeping industry

* Best choice for asthma and allergy sufferers

* Recommended by the American Lung Association

* The light spectrum emitted from a beeswax candle is the closest of all waxes to natural sunshine

DISADVANTAGES:

* Considered pricier than other waxes, (however based on the longer burn time and health benefits the value of beeswax is higher.)

* Some beeswax candle companies get their wax from China or blend other waxes into their candles

TIPS FOR BETTER BURNING

TAPERS:

* Should be evenly stuck in an appropriate holder so cannot tip over or drip.

* Should burn free-standing

* Extinguished with a snuff

* Rolled by hand with care, the wick will extinguish itself when it run out of wax.

VOTIVE: (and all container candles):

* Designed to liquefy while burning and must be in a proper container.

* Each use should have wax surface melt flat to the edge of the container.

* Pop out burn-control tab and drop the next candle refill in.

* Container will get very hot while burning, should be in or on a heat-resistant holder or surface.

TEA LIGHTS:

* Should be burnt in the heat resistant approved cup provided.

* Recommended to be burnt all in one use.

* The cup can be re-use, just pop out the burn control tab and drop the tealight refill in.

HONEYCOMB PILLARS GENERAL TIPS:

* Wicks should always be 5mm in length

* Beeswax candles benefit from longer burn periods

* Wax pool not centered due to wick curl; use a non-flammable implement to push wick towards thicker side

* Wax pool pushed "down by wind"; periodically turning the candle 180° will average the effect.

* Drips formed; should be extinguished and allowed to cool before re-lighting

* Channel formed; should be plugged with some wax.

* Thin wall develops; push wax in from all sides towards center while burning.

* Thick wall develops; cut wall down to level of wax pool and resume proper burning times.

* Extinguish by pushing wick into wax pool then pulling straight.

* Beeswax may contain natural debris from beehives which may leave a dark material around wick as burns.
